Thermoplastic beads, sometimes called plastic pellets or InstaMorph, are small balls made of a polymer that softens when heated and hardens when cooled without undergoing chemical changes.
They behave like reusable plastic clay:
  • when heated above a certain reusable temperature, polymorphic beads become malleable and can be molded; when cooled to room temperature, they solidify and take on a rigid form.
The balls are made of a low-melting-point polymer and are ideal for crafts, cosplay, minor repairs, prototypes, and dental or theatrical effects (e.g., fangs). One of their most attractive features is that once cooled, they are stable and retain their shape until reheated. This makes them ideal for multiple corrections or alterations.

This product is not suitable for painting, which means that it does not accept any paint. The elements can be painted for use in costumes or cosplay accessories, but keep in mind that the paint can easily scratch if the elements rub against something. It is best to paint them with an airbrush and always apply an acrylic primer to improve adhesion.

How do you melt plastic balls?
Melting plastic balls involves softening them rather than melting them completely: they are heated to a temperature where they become transparent and malleable, but not to the point of becoming completely liquid (which could cause polymer degradation). Once softened, they bond together and can be easily worked.
